Electric School Bus Program

Electrifying Our Community's School Buses for a
Cleaner, Healthier and Safer Central Coast

3CE is funding 50% of the cost to replace at least 11 traditional school buses with electric buses locally, providing a total of $2.2 million in funding.
Who is Eligible?
School districts located within the counties of Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz who are current or enrolling 3CE customers are eligible to apply for program funding covering 50% of the cost of an electric school bus up to $200,000
This energy program helps ensure your school district has the opportunity to replace your diesel school buses with clean running electric buses and reduce overhead costs while improving local air quality.
Where does the funding come from?
3CE has allotted up to $200,000 in funding per bus during its current fiscal year. 3CE’s energy programs are self funded.

Is there more funding available?
Electric bus manufacturers and local Air Pollution Control Districts may have additional funding programs available to combine with this funding.
What is the impact?
The program intends to provide environmental, economic and social equity benefits as it improves air quality by reducing local greenhouse gas emissions in close proximity to students.
      • CCCE is incentivizing the purchase of at least 11 school buses totaling $2.2 million for public school districts throughout its service area
      • Each school bus replaced with an all-electric model is estimated to avoid 15.6 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions (MTCO2e) each year, including diesel particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds.
      • Funds will provide economic stimulus to local public schools to upgrade their fleets.
      • Disadvantaged and Low-Income communities will receive priority
      • Program will be available on a rolling basis until fully reserved.
The Process:
1. Get a quote for the electric bus.
2. Apply online.
3. 3CE will review your application and determine eligibility.
4. If approved, the school/school district will receive a letter of intent to receive funds for the bus once the bus is ready for delivery.
Applications for this program will be accepted beginning July 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. until funding is reserved.

Are you wondering how you will charge your new electric bus?

Central Coast Community Energy is also providing EV charger and installation rebates. Public schools and school districts are considered public agencies and are eligible for the highest funding amount.
